One Simple Step To Greatly Increase The pERFORMANCE oF Your Ads

I want to let you in on a little secret that drastically changed the way I wrote for the better, and I am not only talking about ads. This works for social media captions, website copy, blog posts, or even text messages. Everything you write.

All depends on one simple element…

I remember the mixed feelings I got after seeing the results this one overlooked element has got me. But, I am getting ahead of myself…

Senior year college, majored in marketing, I interned at an architecture firm where my boss put me in charge of managing their ads.

I thought “How hard can marketing for a small local business be?”

The Same Advertising Mistake All Local Businesses Make

I went back to my office, sat down, and stared down a blank page, clueless on how to make a great ad for a small business. Like a naked caveman in a mall with his torch, grunting at the walls for being too plain.

So I decided, like a rational person, to try and do some research to find a way that would work for my situation.

Which made things even worse!

Some sources told me to use a cute animal in my ad. Others said that wasn’t professional.

Some sources told me to repeat my message again and again. Others said repetition annoys people and makes them NOT buy from you.

With the deadline rapidly approaching I took a shortcut. I looked at the ads of our competitors and did roughly the same. Like copying your classmate’s homework and changing it up slightly so it’s not an exact copy.

I showed it to my boss, almost certain he would tell me this was low effort. He half looked at it once, muttered 'it's alright' and decided to run it as is.

The weird thing about it was my boss not caring about how he spent money on something that didn’t get him results. No calls. No clients came in.

Almost as if he was burning money…

Even though that drained the life out of me trying to figure it out, this scenario led me to discover a little ignored marketing secret…

How To Stop Burning Money On Ads

Now that I am running my own business, I know that behind every successful ad there is a very defined goal, and I insist on this principle:

“Whatever I invest money on, I expect it to perform EXACTLY as intended.”

When I pay for marketing, I am not paying for jargon like ‘top of mind brand awareness’ or ‘brand recognition’...

I am not a multinational billion dollar company like Coca Cola with millions of dollars in budget to spend on advertising every year.

I am not just paying for ads to get in front of people; I am investing in tangible results.

And I assume you do like getting the exact outcomes you wanted from whatever you put your money in, don’t you?

It’s the smart option. It’s a good way to handle your business.

The Simplest Way To Instantly Make Your Ads Beat 99% Of The Competition

Many ads do not hold the consumer’s attention long enough to make the sale. Instead, their ads get buried next to thousands of similar advertisements.

This is because of one simple thing most sources may not tell you about:

A confused customer never buys.

No one cares about memes. No one cares about animal pictures. No one cares about cute animal memes.

“If it does not convert, it does not pay the rent.”

It's true because it rhymes…

How do you make your ads clear?

Ask yourself these exact questions:

  1. “What actions do I want them to take when they see the ad?”

  2. “What problems am I solving for them?”

  3. and my favorite “What would they want from my product/service?”

Stating the needs of your customers and showing how you directly take care of them often is the simplest, most overlooked way to make them want to buy from you.

If you want to have a clear message, you need to deeply understand your market and continuously refine your messaging…
